This week at The CYSTEM our student athletes resumed MMA training at REDLINE Fight Sports while others stayed at the center for baseball training fundamentals. Lunch Time Trivia ended with a three way tie for first place Zyair B, Anthony W, Anthony B and Gabe T. This week will decide the winner! SA's also stepped up the conditioning drills and endorance running, getting ready for the upcoming Triathlon and Baseball seasons!
Super Sunday 5 with RACEMENU
The CYSTEM staff teamed up with RACEMENU again for their annual SUPER SUNDAY 5 Race to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, TargetCancer. Once again this race & after race reception was a major success! Over 1,800 runners and about hundred volunteers braved the cold snowy weather and had a blast! The CYSTEM's Jennifer Turnbull, Shaline Pires, Kristina Turnbull, Tommy Lapsley and Tyson Bolling chipped in by operating the water station, pouring beverages, helping with setup/clean/breakdown and having lots of chilly fun in the process!
We Can, We Will
CYSTEM resumed its Saturday sessions this week Jan 19th. It was a fun day for all! The Area 4 Youth Center was very kind & supportive of us & our kids. CYP Department Head Michelle Farnum and Area 4 Director Nicole granted permission for CYSTEM SA's & Staff to use their space for a staging site for our canning drive to raise funds. We were then invited to take part in their festivities celebrating Dr Martin Luther King Jr. We are very grateful for their support, generosity & kindness.. Thank you Nicole for supporting our youth! Earlier in the morning we shared a discussion about our vacation time & our fitness efforts during that time off. We then welcomed new Student Athlete Desani to our team! Saturday January 26th we will be back to our normal schedule 10:00am - 3:00pm at the Moore Center 12 Gilmore Street Cambridge MA 02139.
This Week at The CYSTEM
The CYSTEM was in full effect this past Saturday; Student Athletes were excited to be back. We did some light conditioning drills and started our baseball training clinics! Our Student Athletes showed some serious potential and we can’t wait to see them on the diamond this spring! During our team challenges (5) SA’s walked away with 100 points each and another (5) walked away with 50 points each. During lunch we discussed the future of our program, receiving some awesome ideas and insight from SAs Mohammed Shafim and Syed Hogue as well as other Student Athletes. Some of our SA’s feel that we should do more fundraising to help support the program, others suggested more academic challenges, and we even talked about starting a CYSTEM Chess Club! One of our Student Athletes suggested that we start teaching kids how to cook healthy foods. We also spoke about different foods we’ve all eaten; it was a great conversation for our group. We announced that our Triathlon team will start training soon; there are only 12 spots for triathletes (so there maybe be tryouts) good luck guys!
Thank You Herb Chambers Mercedes Benz for Your Continued Support
CYSTEM Student Athletes & Staff received their new shirts and sweatshirts courtesy of Herb Chambers Mercedes Benz of Boston. Herb Chambers Mercedes has been supporting The CYSTEM for three consecutive years now, their kindness and
generosity is unparalleled. We would like to give a big shout out and thank you to Jeff Davis and his staff for their help! Winning is not everything... But it sure is cool, just ask these two!
Brothers Kalier and Johanny left The CYSTEM with plans on visiting the mall! Kalier, Student Athlete of the Session and Johanny, Lunch Trivia winner walked away each with a $25 gift card! Congrats Boys!!!
